Currently, 26 million people worldwide suffer from dementia, and if we continue this course over 15 million Americans and 100 million people around the world will have some type of dementia by the year 2050. Recently, those in the battle against dementia have focused on ways to slow and prevent it rather than come up with a drug to cure it. The results of this research provide new hope to halt the dementia "pandemic."
As rates climb for dementia, researchers have broadened their sights from finding a cure to preventing it. A few years ago, the Alzheimer’s Association gave over half a million dollars to fund three studies focusing on ways to prevent dementia. According dementia experts, while there are some factors out of our control to prevent dementia (e.g. genetics), there are also things we can do that are in our control, such as physical and mental exercising, diet, and living a lifestyle to promote sleep, manage stress, and engage in social activities.
In Use It or Lose It: Strategies to Prevent Dementia learn about this research and how to live in such a way as slow down or even prevent dementia. For the rest of the month of March, Use It or Lose It will be offered at a reduced rate in honor of National Brain Awareness Week.
